He is the author of seventeen books of poetry. Among others: Entre otros: La puerta giratoria (Joaquín Mortíz-Planeta,1998/ Verdehalago, Colección La Centena, México, 2006); Jardines sumergidos (Colibrí, México, 2003); Tiempo fuera (1988-2005), (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, 2007); Los Alebrijes (Hiperión, Madrid, 2007); Kilómetro cero (Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila, Saltillo, 2009) Qualcuno va (―Ed. bilingüe español-italiano―, Sentieri Meridiani Edizioni, Foggia, Bari, 2010); Otras Horas (Quálea, Santander, 2010); Mapa mudo (Fundación José Manuel Lara, Sevilla, 2011); Herida sombra (Posdata, Monterrey, 2012); Nudista (Secretaría de Cultura de Coahuila, Saltillo, 2014) y Parque México, (Renacimiento, Sevilla, 2018).


He has been awarded, in Mexico, the Plural Latin American Prize (1985) and the National Poetry Prize Aguascalientes (1998) and, in Spain, the International Poetry Prize Miguel Hernández-Comunidad Valenciana (2007) and the Ibero-American Prize of Poetry Brothers Machado (2011).


Part of his work is included in numerous anthologies of Mexican and Ibero-American poetry published in Belgium, Spain, Greece, Morocco, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Italy, and in several countries of Latin America. It has been translated into Arabic, French, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Romanian and English.


As a Career Member of the Mexican Foreign Service, he headed the Cultural Center of Mexico in Costa Rica and the Institute of Mexico in Spain. He has worked in the embassies of Mexico in Argentina, Spain, Costa Rica, Cuba, Morocco and Trinidad and Tobago, and in the Consulate General in Miami, Florida, United States of America. In the Foreign Ministry, he was director of Agreements and Programs, director of Cultural Outreach, and project director of the Commemorative Activities of 2010 abroad. He is a distinguished member of the Mexican Culture Seminar and Member of the National System of Art Creators.
